Marine conservation must be based on scientific evidence, but cannot be achieved without integrating the socio-economic dimension. Protecting the marine ecosystem makes no sense without doing so to sustainably empower communities.
This event proposes to combine these dimensions in a panel bringing together marine ecologists, conservation finance experts, community-based organisations, students and actors of ecological transitions. Successful MPAs for both protection of the ecosystem and community development will be explored in France, the Mediterranean and Indonesia, with a comparison with other success stories on land.
