The Restoration Series Part III: The Restoration Initiative in Sao Tome and Principe
In early 2023, TRI-STP began partnering with Acorn, a Rabobank initiative, to measure, certify, and monetize carbon sequestered by smallholders restoring agroforestry systems. This partnership aims to provide an exit strategy for TRI by enabling third-party organizations to purchase quantified climate impacts, referred to as Carbon Removal Units, each representing one ton of CO₂ sequestered.
Working alongside Rabobank, FAO, and local cooperatives, the initiative is establishing demonstration farms and is about to develop a regulatory framework for carbon credits. The program has already reached approximately 5,400 farmers across 8,100 hectares, with plans to share more details about their verification and revenue-sharing mechanisms.
Join the webinar to learn how this carbon credit program is transforming smallholder farming while fighting climate change.
