Register GLF Nairobi 2023 now to explore local solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises.
Sub-Saharan Africa is affected by desertification, land degradation, and drought, more than other regions. Small-scale farmers, women, youth and indigenous peoples are the most vulnerable to the impacts of unsustainable land use practices, despite playing a crucial role in ecosystems restoration. Access to secure land tenure rights however continues to jeopardize their efforts and contributions to ecosystem restoration. Africa’s drylands are more vulnerable to climate change and their restoration remains crucial for adaptation and building resilient and sustainable food systems.
This session thus seeks to highlight the importance of tenure security in locally restoring its land to sustainable production, protecting biodiversity, and shielding livelihoods in the war against climate change.
