Forests are vital for cities. They provide essential ecosystems services to urban areas, including clean water, protection against floods, temperature regulation and air pollution reduction. Protecting and restoring forests within and around urban areas and connecting green areas in the city to forests through green corridors is beneficial for biodiversity, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and the health and well-being of city dwellers. Though finding space for forests in densely built urban environments can be challenging, there are ways to find areas for green spaces and corridors that connect to nearby forests.
In this webinar, forest experts and cities will share their insights into how cities can protect and conserve urban and peri-urban forests, create green corridors, and the innovative ways to make space for nature in the urban landscape.
