The FAO-led Task Force on Best Practices for the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (UN Decade) is implementing the Capacity, Knowledge, and Learning Action Plan of the UN Decade, designed to address capacity gaps and priorities for ecosystem restoration among different types of stakeholders. The plan includes eight initiatives, and for three of them the Task Force is gathering information for different purposes (forms available in multiple languages). We encourage you to participate based on the following information:
1. Initiative 1 is focused on building a Professional Platform for Education and Learning (PROPEL). To that end, the Task Force is conducting a global survey or take stock of existing (currently offered) capacity development initiatives focused related to professional development in ecosystem restoration. All educational organizations and universities are welcome to participate in the stocktaking by clicking on this link. Please note that the stocktaking process requires that the form is filled out separately for each program, platform or initiative.
2. Initiative 3 is working on establishing a Community-Based Ecosystem Restoration Mechanism. To achieve this, the Task Force is mobilizing efforts to identify champion-communities with experience in establishing and managing restoration-related, self-sustaining and/or income generating activities. Champions will be selected based on geographic and sociocultural criteria and will be invited to share their lessons learned and experiences at various community-focused activities and will receive support o showcase their work. To nominate champion-communities, please follow this link.
3. Initiative 5 is compiling case studies on Pluralistic Extension and Advisory Services (EAS for ecosystem restoration, aiming at documenting and showcasing good practices and facilitating knowledge sharing among countries. The best case studies will be published in a compendium and presented at a global workshop to develop capacities to develop capacities to effectively provide extension and advisory services that integrate ecosystem restoration knowledge and practice.
