Partnering with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, the non-profit Street Art for Mankind has pledged to produce 50 Ecosystem Restoration murals by 2030 in cities across the world. The large-scale artworks are intended to reach millions of citizens, mobilizing people across the globe for ecosystem restoration.
To accompany their impressive murals, Street Art for Mankind has produced a free mobile app called Behind the Wall® that works as an audio guide and a tool for action when scanning the murals in person and online. It enables the public to discover the story behind each of the massive Ecosystem Restoration works of street art, that have popped up in Brussels, Houston, Detroit, Seattle and New York City. Passers-by as well as those admiring the art online can hear experts discuss the issue, listen to the artists describe their creations and learn about how people can take action to address the issue.
Thanks to the app, cities become outdoor museums, encouraging citizens to become part of the positive change that they want to see in the world. They can locate other murals close by and now they can make creative statements anytime with the new “Selfie-Art” functionality, which was made possible thanks to the support of Banuba who offered their augmented reality technology. For instance, people can add a face mask created by a world-renowned street artist, put their favorite mural in the background, add music, record a video, and share on social media channel. So the Ecosystem Restoration murals come to life in more ways than one!
