The Conference of Parties (COP) is the governing body of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), an international treaty adopted at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
This biennial gathering establishes agendas, commitments, and frameworks to conserve biological diversity, promote sustainable use of natural resources, and ensure fair sharing of benefits from genetic resource utilization.
For the first time in history, Colombia will host the 16th edition of this crucial conference on biodiversity in Cali, capital of the Valle del Cauca department.
COP 16's slogan, "Peace with Nature," calls for reflection on improving our relationship with the environment and rethinking economic models that prioritize extraction and pollution. The conference aims to take decisive measures for biodiversity protection, foster international cooperation in conservation efforts, and promote sustainable development practices.
