To support efforts to restore degraded ecosystems worldwide, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 2021–2030 as the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, led jointly by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). To help achieve the mission of the UN Decade, an FAO-led Task Force on Best Practices was established to enhance knowledge dissemination and capacity development.
The Task Force on Best Practices has developed:
- Ten principles for ecosystem restoration activities under the scope of the UN Decade;
- Standards of practice to guide the application of the ten principles; and
- A platform for the dissemination of good restoration practices, integrated into the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM)
The FAO-led Task Force on Best Practices has organized this webinar to improve knowledge sharing and capacity development throughout the UN Decade. This webinar will encourage restoration experts to share knowledge with the global restoration community by providing detailed guidance on how to register restoration initiatives and document good practices. In addition, the webinar will present a summary report of the Standards of Practice to Guide Ecosystem Restoration, an overview of the 250+ recommended practices through five main components and 45 sub-components of the restoration process.
