Launched in September 2023 and co-produced by the GPI, the flagship Peatland Atlas 2023 is another publication to amplify the results of the Global Peatlands Assessment by offering accessible insights into the challenges and potential solutions for peatlands. This user-friendly platform translates complex data into actionable steps, fostering a wider dialogue among policymakers, stakeholders, and the public. Through this collaboration, the Atlas becomes a powerful tool in promoting awareness and driving concrete actions for the global protection of peatlands.

The publication by the Michael Succow Stiftung, partner of the Greifswald Mire Centre, BUND - Friends of the Earth Germany and the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, in cooperation with the Global Peatland Initiative, contributes to a broad social debate on challenges and solutions for peatland conservation, restoration, and sustainable management in Europe and globally. The text is clear that while peatland protection pays off, massive conservation and restoration is needed.
