The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration conducts a workshop aiming to highlight the pivotal role of ecosystem restoration reflecting extraordinary examples by recently announced 7 New UN World Restoration Flagships in addressing global environmental challenges. This event serves as a platform for showcasing the achievements and success stories of these initiatives, focusing on knowledge sharing and collaboration to advance the implementation of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and synergize with both nature and climate agendas.

This workshop will provide a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange and networking, to engage, collaborate, and learn from the success stories of ecosystem restoration initiatives under the UN Decade. It will emphasize the importance of ecosystem restoration as a critical component of addressing climate change, conserving biodiversity, and achieving sustainable development goals. In addition, through discussions, and partnership opportunities, participants will gain insights into the UN Decade's contributions to global restoration efforts and its potential for scaling up these actions worldwide.

The workshop will inspire and mobilize individuals, organizations, and governments to join the movement #GenerationRestoration and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for our planet.

Planned outputs:

  1. Workshop report based on the result of the technical discussion on the pivotal role of ecosystem restoration in addressing global environmental challenges with scalable solutions disseminated to support policy decisions.
  2. Commitment for Targets Achievements: encourage key stakeholders such as government, non-governmental organizations, financial institutions, and community-based representatives to strengthen commitments for biodiversity conservation and restoration, in line with global commitments, particularly the Global Biodiversity Framework
  3. Mainstreaming Biodiversity: advocate for the integration of biodiversity considerations into policy, planning, and decision-making processes across all sectors. Promote the adoption of nature-based solutions in community resilience and sustainable development efforts.
  4. Innovative Financing Mechanisms: explore and promote innovative financial instruments and partnerships to mobilize resources for biodiversity conservation and restoration. Encourage public-private collaborations and explore the potential for nature-based tourism and ecosystem services as revenue streams.
  5. Raising the profile of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) jobs and employment opportunities: Advocate for more local employment opportunities and green jobs to support the restoration and investments into nature.
